Why is golf considered a sport that becomes more addictive the more you play?

Golf is a sport that many players regard as the “green drug” because once you start playing, it’s easy to become addicted.

Improved Health and Agility

Based on the results of 5,000 studies on the relationship between golf and health, scientists have found that regular golfing can prevent chronic diseases, enhance mental well-being, and contribute to longevity.

Additionally, research has shown that one round of golf is equivalent to a week of continuous exercise. To complete 18 holes on a Par 72 course, players typically walk an average of 6 to 12 kilometers (approximately 11,245 to 16,667 steps). Therefore, if golfers choose to walk the entire course without using golf carts or other means of transportation, they burn around 1400 to 1500 calories.

Excellent Business Opportunities

It’s not an exaggeration to say that golf is an aristocratic sport. To pursue this sport, players need to have comfortable financial means to cover expenses such as purchasing clubs, renting carts, dining, tipping caddies, and most importantly, paying the green fee.

Furthermore, golfers need to have leisure time. Completing 18 holes, with an average player, takes about 4 to 5 hours. So, each casual round of golf takes at least half to a full day, not including travel time. If you lead a busy life, it’s certain that you won’t be able to visit the golf course regularly.

Despite these challenges, more and more people are turning to golf. They do it not only for the love of the sport but also to seek business opportunities. Golf courses often host appearances by entrepreneurs and politicians, so you may encounter them by chance without needing to schedule a meeting. Moreover, golf rounds are relatively long, providing ample time for networking and exploring new ideas. In fact, successful business deals have been known to be negotiated on the golf course.

For example, on August 8, 2019, the National Young Businessmen’s Golf Championship VI took place at Montgomerie Links Vietnam Golf Course, with 136 golfers from 16 provinces and cities across the country participating. In September 2019, the golf tournament welcoming the launch of the Quang Nam Young Entrepreneurs Association in the south was held at Tan Son Nhat Golf Course, bringing together many golfers who were also young business owners.

Another notable example is the Swing For Children’s Tet 2020 golf tournament, which featured the participation of “Sharks” from the Vietnamese version of Shark Tank – a billion-dollar deal: Pham Thanh Hung, Nguyen Thanh Viet, Nguyen Hoa Binh, as well as famous figures like former footballer Hong Son, singer Tuan Hung, and others.

Then, on July 23, 2020, the National Young Businessmen’s Golf Championship VIII in 2020 provided an opportunity for young entrepreneurs from various provinces and cities across the country to meet, exchange experiences in both life and work. This led to new cooperative relationships being established.

It can be seen that golf courses are not just meeting places for individuals or club members with a shared passion; they are also the starting point for joyful cooperation and successful business ventures.

However, lasting collaborations must ultimately be built on individual inner strength and sincerity. And, of course, if you come to golf out of love and passion, you will surely taste the sweet rewards.
