The unique traditional Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns “hover” over the ancient streets of Hanoi

Many residents couldn’t help but be amazed when they saw 30 large traditional Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns hanging gracefully along the streets of Hang Luoc, Hang Ma, Hang Ruoi in Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi.

These 30 traditional lanterns were arranged by Hoan Kiem district as part of the Old Quarter Mid-Autumn Festival 2023.

The hanging lanterns here vary in shapes and sizes, under 2 meters, featuring images closely associated with the ancient Mid-Autumn Festival.

The author’s group shared that the idea, design, and rapid construction of these 30 Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns took place within two weeks, drawing inspiration from old photos capturing scenes of past Mid-Autumn Festivals in the Old Quarter with traditional lantern toys that have faded from the memories of Hanoi’s residents.

The material used for these Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns is a steel frame covered with specialized waterproof fabric.

The radiant Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns depict traditional dragon boat scenes.

In addition to Hang Luoc, Phung Hung Street is also filled with the Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere, illuminated by the light of colorful lanterns in various shapes, stretching throughout the neighborhood. This location quickly attracts photographers, tourists, and young people who come to take photos regardless of the weather, be it rain or shine.
