The Most Powerful Passports in the World in 2023

According to the latest information from CNN Travel, the most powerful passport in the world in 2023 has officially been revealed. Where does the Vietnamese passport rank on this list?

According to a new quarterly report published by London-based global citizenship and residence consulting firm Henley & Partners, there is a “trinity” of Asian passports that give holders more freedom to travel globally than any other country. In particular, Japanese citizens can freely travel to 193 destinations globally with visa-free or visa-on-demand privileges. This is a record number far exceeding the next two countries, Singapore and South Korea, with 192 destinations.

Also according to a report by Henley & Partners, international travel demand is growing at 75% compared to before the pandemic, based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Many Asia-Pacific countries have also begun to open their doors to international visitors, so citizens from Japan, Singapore, and South Korea can take advantage of the powerful passports

After the three Asian countries mentioned above, there are many European countries near the top of the rankings. Germany and Spain both have 190 destinations, followed by Finland, Italy, and Luxembourg with 189 destinations. Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden then tied for fifth place, while France, Ireland, Portugal, and the United Kingdom came in sixth place. New Zealand and the United States appeared in the 7th place, along with Belgium, Norway, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic.

According to Henley & Partners rankings, the Vietnamese passport ranks 88th in the list of 227 territories and countries worldwide by 2023, with Vietnamese passport holders able to visit 55 countries without applying for a visa, or just needing an electronic visa or visa at the border. This is a jump of 4 places compared to the 92nd position announced last year.

Afghan nationals are once again at the bottom of the rankings and can only visit 27 countries without first applying for a visa.
