On the morning of September 5th, more than 22 million preschool and general education students across the country attended the opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 academic year. This marks the fourth year of implementing the 2018 General Education Program.
For many years now, the opening ceremony of the new school year has been uniformly scheduled nationwide and takes place on the morning of September 5th.

A Simple Opening Ceremony Following the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training, the opening ceremony of the new school year is organized in a concise, solemn, and meaningful manner, bringing joy to teachers and students across the country as they embark on the new school year.
Schools all hold ceremonies to welcome first-year students (Grade 1, Grade 6, and Grade 10), raise the national flag, sing the national anthem, and listen to the President’s letter to the education sector. After the formalities, many schools organize various activities related to the year’s themes or specific messages outlined in the year-round action plan.
The 2023-2024 academic year marks the fourth year of implementing the 2018 General Education Program and is the first year the new program is implemented in Grades 4, 8, and 11. However, schools must continue to implement both programs concurrently (while Grades 5, 9, and 12 continue with the 2006 General Education Program).

Schools must continue to overcome challenges and improve conditions related to teachers, infrastructure, and teaching equipment to effectively and enhance the quality of the new program.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that the 2023-2024 academic year must see greater dynamism and creativity in all aspects of educational activities within schools. The key role in achieving fundamental and comprehensive educational reforms lies with teachers. The dedication and determination of teachers are the decisive factors in striving for fundamental and comprehensive educational reforms.
