Tau cave Moc Chau (Primitive village) is a village of the H’Mong people that still retains its wild and peaceful charm, surrounded by rugged mountains. It is perfect for enthusiasts who seek to explore the Northwestern region of Vietnam.
WHERE IS TAU CAVE?
- Tau cave (located in Ta So village, Chien Hac commune, Moc Chau district) is situated in a valley about 18 kilometers away from the center of Moc Chau. It is essentially an agricultural area with approximately 1 hectare of land and 20 H’Mong households. In recent years, Tau cave has attracted many travelers due to its unspoiled and friendly scenery.

- The H’Mong people often refer to it as Tau cave, while adventure seekers often call it the “primitive village” because this area lacks electricity, internet, and phone signal. Getting to Tau cave
- To reach Tau cave, you need to first go to Moc Chau, then head towards Son La. Once you reach Chien Hac commune, you will find a turnoff sign to Ta So. Follow this road, and after about 7 kilometers, you will need to either walk or ride a motorbike because the path becomes rough and difficult. It’s best to rent a car to get to Ta So and then hire a motorbike taxi to reach Hang Tau for about 150,000 VND per person for a round trip.
- If you are an experienced driver and have a capable vehicle, you can drive on your own on sunny days when the road is dry.
THE IDEAL TIME TO VISIT TAU CAVE MOC CHAU (Primitive Village)
Like other “destinations” in the area, Hang Tau Moc Chau (Primitive Village) has its own unique beauty each season. Therefore, you should consider the characteristics of each season for a complete trip to the Moc Chau plateau. In spring, you will see cherry blossoms in full bloom alongside cornfields. Towards the end of autumn or the beginning of winter, a variety of flowers bloom, providing ample opportunities for photography. However, it’s not advisable to visit Hang Tau Moc Chau (Primitive Village) during the rainy season, around July and August, as the roads become slippery and challenging to navigate.

WHAT’S THERE TO ENJOY IN TAU CAVE?
- Tau cave is located at the edge of the forest, with H’Mong wooden houses and stilt houses scattered at the foot of the mountains. In the center of the village is a wide, flat grassy area, perfect for children to play or for livestock to roam freely. Surrounding the village are tall ancient trees and limestone rocks that create a pristine and impressive landscape.
- Each season brings its own beauty to Tau cave. In spring, as you approach the “primitive village,” you’ll have the chance to admire cherry blossoms in full bloom alongside cornfields. However, during the rainy season, the journey here becomes difficult due to muddy and slippery roads.

- In the early months of the year, visitors can immerse themselves in a spacious and tranquil atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, surrounded by the sounds of birds and livestock throughout the village.
- Here, tourists also have the opportunity to learn and experience the simple life of the local people, such as participating in farming, animal husbandry, bamboo shoot harvesting, or even learning embroidery or enjoying corn wine.
- To preserve the unique customs and culture of the region, the local authorities require visitors to park their motorcycles and cars outside the village. Additionally, visitors are not allowed to bring any animal-based food into the village.
ADMISSION TO TAU CAVE
